The official website for the Dunlop and Lugton Community Council.
The objectives of the Council shall be to promote the well-being of community residents, by expressing to the local authority, other public agencies and interested bodies, the views of the community, and by taking such action as appears to be expedient and practical. The Council shall be non-political and non-sectarian.
Community Councils were first created under the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973. The Dunlop & Lugton Community Council was established in 1976, one of thirty six within East Ayrshire Council.
Community Councillors: Their number is decided by the size of the populaton in the Community Council's area. At this time Dunlop & Lugton has a maximum of 12 Councillors. Other persons with specialist skills / expertise can be co-opted onto the Council.
East Ayrshire Councillors: The three East Ayrshire Councillors for the area (Ward 1) - 'ex officio' - are also members, but not entitled to vote.
Term of Office: The whole Community Council retires every three years.
The AGM is held in April, each year.
All meetings of the Community Council are open to members of the public.
Police Community Officers provide reports and normally attend meetings, together with speakers invited to provide more information on matters of concern - planning, schools, traffic, environment etc.
