Bogus Telephone Call – Council Tax

East Ayrshire Council have issued the following warning:

A resident has received a phone call from someone claiming to be from the council advising their Council Tax banding is reducing from Band B to Band A and they are due money back. The caller advised if they gave their bank details they would receive £150 back just now followed by paperwork in the post in the next few days along with more money in the next 6 weeks.

We have advised that if the banding reduced we wouldn’t phone and ask for bank details. They have been advised to phone the police.

Please remind family, friends and service users to always be cautious and never give out personal details on the telephone when cold called like this.
